English Skills – Age 4+

At this stage, children begin to understand pictures and can form simple descriptive sentences about them. In addition to picture reading, the teacher introduces the reading of consonant-vowel (CV) and consonant-vowel-consonant (CVC) words and sentences. Children also learn how to trace and write these words.

The concepts of stories, numbers, colours, and shapes are further developed to provide children with a deeper understanding of the world around them. At this age, children’s vocalizations become clearer, leading to the introduction of whole word reading and phonetic reading of short words.

Similar to the 3+ age group, this curriculum is structured around themes such as Communication Arts (picture reading), Phonics (focusing on beginning, middle, and ending sounds, vowel sounds, double vowel sounds, and double consonant sounds), and Letter Work (writing letters and words).

The book is concluded with the introduction to comprehension and grammar.
